William H. Macy has been cast in Pierre Boulle’s 20th Century Studios’ popular Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes franchise. The first movie, released in 1968, was a commercial and critical success, leading to the 2011 reboot Rise of the Planet of the Apes starring James Franco, followed by two sequels directed by Matt Reeves: 2014’s Dawn of the Planet of the Apes and 2017’s War for the Planet of the Apes. Both of these performed extremely well in the box office, amassing a combined total of over $1.2 billion worldwide.

The War for Planet of the Apes marked the conclusion of Caesar’s (portrayed by Andy Serkis) story. Not much is known about the storyline of Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, but it is expected to take place in the distant future, and based on the title, will be examining the results of Caesar’s legacy in a world led by the apes. The movie might look into the repercussions of such a setting and how the primates will approach the remaining humans.
To the dismay of some, Matt Reeves is not directing the fourth instalment in the Planet of the Apes reboot series, being occupied instead with constructing the Batman universe at DC. Taking the reins of the movie is Wes Ball, director of the Maze Runner films. The script is being penned by Patrick Aison, Josh Friedman, Amanda Silver and Rick Jaffa from Avatar: The Way of Water. Further information regarding the characters is being withheld, but the cast has been revealed, with Steve Macy, Owen Teague, Kevin Durand and Freya Allan from The Witcher starring in it.
